06/27/2010 - Cincinnati, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Indians, mired in a seven-game losing streak, have dealt first baseman Russell Branyan back to the Seattle Mariners, where he enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2009.
The Indians will receive Triple-A outfielder Ezequiel Carrera and High-A shortstop Juan Diaz from the Mariners. Additionally, Cleveland will either pay the remainder of Branyan's $2 million contract for 2010 or send Seattle a player to be named later.
The impetus behind the trade is for the Indians to recall Matt LaPorta, who has struggled in the big leagues while being shuffled between the majors and Triple-A Columbus. LaPorta, the key ingredient to the deal that sent CC Sabathia to the Brewers in 2008, has hit .218 in 35 games this year for the Indians and .353 in 17 games for the Clippers in 2010.
Branyan, meanwhile, will go back to the Mariners after hitting a career-high 31 homers for them in 116 games in 2009. He is currently batting .262 with 10 homers and 24 RBI for the Indians through 51 games in 2010.
"It's no secret that we've been pursuing a bat for some time," said Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik. "The opportunity to consummate a deal presented itself today. In Russell, we have added a bat that can help bolster our offense. With three-plus months to play we want to give our team every opportunity to be as productive as possible this season while not harming the long-term plan for the franchise."
Carrera, 23, who was also involved in a 12-player deal in the 2008 offseason that involved the Mets, Indians and Mariners, will be sent to Columbus and was batting .268 with six doubles and 18 RBI in 64 games for Triple-A Tacoma.
Diaz, 21, was batting .295 with seven homers and 41 RBI at High Desert and will be sent to Class-A Kinston.
The Indians and Mariners are rather common trade partners in recent years, with Cleveland coming out on the winning end the majority of the time. In two separate 2006 deals between the clubs, the Indians received starting shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and starting outfielder Shin-Soo Choo in exchange for Eduardo Perez and Ben Broussard.
Recently, in the aforementioned 12-player trade involving Carrera, the Mariners received outfielder Franklin Gutierrez from Cleveland, which got infielder Luis Valbuena from Seattle and pitcher Joe Smith from the Mets.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
