Blues try to get on track against Hurricanes

Hockey Betting Lines

01/02/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The St. Louis Blues will try to avoid a third consecutive loss when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at RBC Center.

The Blues recently finished a three-game homestand with a 1-2-0 record, as they followed a shootout victory over San Jose with consecutive 4-3 regulation losses.

Tonight begins a stretch of four road tests in five games for St. Louis, which is just 5-11-1 as the visiting team this season. The Blues have lost six in a row on the road and haven't won a game away from the Gateway City since defeating Atlanta on November 30.

St. Louis was last in action on Tuesday and was defeated by the New Jersey Devils. Zach Parise scored twice and Jay Pandolfo netted the game-winner late in the third period as Jersey rallied past the Blues, 4-3, at Scottrade Center.

Brad Boyes and David Backes lit the lamp for the Blues, losers in four of five contests. Manny Legace allowed four goals on 26 shots for the loss.

The Blues come into tonight's test last in the Western Conference with just 31 points on the year.

Carolina is 3-3-0 in its last six games and has alternated wins and losses over that stretch.

The Hurricanes are coming off a victory over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers on New Year's Eve. Sergei Samsonov collected a pair of goals and one assist to lead Carolina to the 3-1 victory.

For Samsonov it was his first two-goal game of the season and the performance gives him seven tallies in 38 games this season. The Russian winger had 14 goals in 38 games with Carolina in 2007-08.

Joe Corvo also tallied for the Hurricanes, while Cam Ward needed to make just 20 stops for the win.

Tonight marks the end of a three-game homestand for Carolina, which is 10-9-1 as the host this year and has won four of its last five tilts in Raleigh.

Carolina has won three of the last four meetings with the Blues, including a 1-0 victory in St. Louis on October 30. The Blues have dropped their last two games in Raleigh.
